DIY The Very Hungry Caterpillar™ Onesie & T-shirt
The outfit is everything! What he wears on his birthday will be in all the pictures you will look back at for a lifetime so I thought long and hard about what I wanted his outfit to look like. I decided instead of buying one I would make one to match the theme of his party and include The Very Hungry Caterpillar on it. I also wanted to incorporate the age, “one” and was able to do it with this cute onesie I am about to show you how to make as well as a matching t-shirt for mom
Here is what you will need:
Fabric of choice
Onesie or T-shirt (in this tutorial both)
First the Onesie, you need to find the perfect piece of fabric, in this case the perfect spot where you can get one entire caterpillar as well as the word “ONE” cut out in the white part of the fabric without any other caterpillars on it. Next you will cut a section of wonder under and iron it onto the back side of your piece of fabric where you will cut out the word “ONE” from.
Once you’ve done that you are ready to lay out your pattern. The pattern is the letter “ONE” cut out of paper and pinned onto the section of fabric you decide to use. Once all pinned down go ahead and cut it out and peel the back of the under wonder off. Place the entire word in the place you would like to adhere it and iron it down making sure all corners are ironed down and secure onto the onesie.
With just these few steps you have created a one of a kind birthday outfit for your little ones big day and possibly even their birthday photo shoot!
Now it’s your turn mom! Not only are you the hostess with the mostest but you are the one that put this whole party together so it seems only fitting that you too have the perfect shirt for the big day!
You will first find a shirt for the big day. Then you will decide what you want to put on it. I chose the large caterpillar one that will wrap around from the back to the front of my t-shirt. Iron out your piece of fabric and cut our the portion you would like to use. Do not cut around the detail of the caterpillar yet just cut a rectangle around it so you can put the wonder under beneath without “gunking” up your iron with the adhesive.
Now you will iron your piece of fabric to the wonder under. I always iron on the front and back of the fabric to insure the adhesive adheres securely.
Now you will cut out all around the edge of the caterpillar.
Now you both have the perfect outfit for the perfect first birthday party!
